Well, I have been snooping around again, trying to move forward in setting updating my computer setup. I have since found that my Lexmark E-210 printer has a USB port - yes I could have looked behind, but, like most other things - it's wedged in there. It was easier to just look it up on the net.
So now the plan is to install CUPS or LPR on a UnSlung NSLU2 system. That way I can probably also plug (and network) my Canon CP-500 using a USB hub. That would be great.

Got a new router
Well I finnaly got a new wireless gateway - now that the 802.11n standard is closed to being finalized, I thought I would jump on the 802.11g bandwagon :-)
Actually this is a wrt54gl - the linux based variant of the ubiquitous wrt54g router/gateway. One of the things I still have not been able to replace is the Paralell port print server on my SMC barricade. I need to find a way to replace that without blowing 150$ on the print servers I have found so far - I can't justify spending more on a "connector" than I did on the printer 6 years ago !!
This is my initial setup, so it's just to get it working - and see if it will improve the throughput to my DSM-320 - and it did. Now I can stream the tete-a-claques videos I downloaded from their site. It was a great success!!
As an asside, the videos are flash streams embeded as objects in the web page, they are easily downloaded using wget, and then converted using ffmpeg.
Of course this does not help the fact that the DMS-320 is still a 1st generation product - I have read reviews of its HD younger brother the DSM-520HD - but I'm getting carried away.
Something I found useful was a Linksys Answer Bulletin that was very helpfull (I have taged it in Del.icio.us in case it gets lost). Of course this will not help me the other way around as the SMC does not have the same features - notably the routing part.
I will be detailing my setup on my wiki.

Rewired home theatre today.
When I upgraded to the projector, I had temporarily wired the speakers on the ceiling. Cables were just wrapped around the speakers. I had older wires that I could NOT untangle at all.
Over the holidays, I finally had a few days straight to clean up my wiring. I spent a few hours today plugging, unplugging, tie-wrapping, reconnecting and testing. Now the whole cable thing is clean - and labeled :-)

OpenID - trusted single sign on.
This is pretty cool O'Reilly Radar >OpenID - it allows for "callback" authentication. It is setting up a framework to allow people to use a thrustedURL for authentication, instead of relying on multiple passwords. Pretty cool !!

So may ways to tie laces !!
I just bought a new pair of boots, and tried to lace them up in a way I recall from Air cadets - so all the laces are straigh across without laces showing underneath. I discovered that it only seemed to work for even number of eyelets - 4,6,8. So why not google it !! I can't be the only one. Wow was I in for a surprise when I bumped into Ian's Shoelace Site - I had never dreamed so many ways of tying laces.
The first thought is always - wow ... what a waste of time ... Then again, I'm blogging about it. Some of these methods are quite usefull - the bushwalker method looks good, with it's cycling variant. I seem to always use the straight/fashion method. I had already seen the ridding boot lacing before.
I guess the waste of time would be trying to figure this out by yourself!!

Folding a paper turkey !!
Ha ... a paper folded turkey. This is pretty good. The better part though is the software system for flatening the model out. It does provide for neat rapid prototyping.

Daily jog in Malta
We brought our Forerunner 305 - it's a watch GPS for running and training. One of the cool features is being able to create KML files for Google maps and Google earth.
Here is the route of our daily job while we were in Malta - yeah ... it was as good as it looks.

Picture finaly online from trip
Hey, Finaly got the trip pictures online. See them at http://picasaweb.google.com/alainchiasson/Europe2006Higlights. What a great trip - London, Malta, Norther Italy - with a short pass through Sicily.Next time I'm there - I'd like to spend more time in Sicily though. I think I'm glad I was there in the end of October - there were still quite a few tourists, and Venice did not stink :-).
Anyway - planing the next trip!!
Finaly back on the blog circuit!!
Well,
I finaly found my old account and was able to delete my alainchiasson.blogger.com blog - so that I could manage it from this account !! Yay!! All I need now is to figure out mobile blogging from canada - not happening soon.
At least Picasa should work properly.
